It was acquired by the London dealer Richard Green for a massive £3,772,000 .
The sale smashed the previous record for a Lowry held by Going To The Match, which was bought by the Football Association for £1,926,500 in 1999.
Good Friday, Daisy Nook was painted on the first Good Friday after the end of World War Two, the day being one of the two statutory holiday days Oldham mill workers
were allowed each year.
Manchesters new musem, The Lowry Centre in Salford Quays, now holds a major collection of his work.
Lowry signed prints
Lowry signed relatively few during his life, in comparison to many other artists of his great stature.
Signed prints have become particularly sought after, and since their publication mainly in the early 1970s, the signed prints have increased considerably in price
alongside the original paintings, and particularly in our recent financial climate, there has been an enormous interest in signed, limited editions of Lowry
for investment.
Indeed the market for his work is and has been so strong over the last five years, that most collectors and investors regard Lowry signed prints as one of the strongest forms of investments
that can be made at present.
